Grape St Dog Park Dedication
My wife and I share our house with Harrison Pickles, a 12-year-old wiener dog mix. When I say share I mean, we fit in where we can. He runs the joint. His favorite things in the world? Mexican food, car rides, and his mom. But topping that list is his beloved stomping ground: the Grape Street Dog Park in South Park.
Recently, Harrison had the honor of attending a dedication ceremony at the park, now officially renamed Tonahill–Ruopp Park. This tribute commemorates two San Diego Police officers. Officer Kimberly Tonahill and Officer Timothy Ruopp tragically lost their lives there on September 14, 1984.
The renaming of the park on the 40th anniversary of the incident serves as a poignant reminder of their sacrifice. For Harrison, it remains a place of joy and play; for the community, it’s now also a place of remembrance and honor..
